AIDEN

Ahh, Aiden! What can I say about this wonderfully sensitive, sweet boy? Aiden has the full meaning of his name, being "FIRE", and his personality is just that-- a ball of fire. He's got so much to his personality, ranging from the sweetest and most sensitive person, to a heck-raiser ready to rumble.Aiden has the personality of a true artist. He's sensitive emotionally speaking, and can be easily hurt, but would never tell you that. He seems to feel the things that he creates, whether it be drawing his favorite cartoon characters (Larry & Bob), or molding out of soft clay. He makes the most amazing sculptures out of the new type of clay that they make that's like a foam when it's dried. They are adorable little creatures that are just awesome to look at. Every piece of art that he does, you can see the love and attention that is put into it. He and the girls took Art lessons for Watercolor painting, and we were blown away to see the talent that is locked inside this young man. What a joy it is to see all of that talent coming out in different venues of art. Whether it be sculpting creatures, drawing carton characters, painting an oceanside picture, or just playing around with a craft project around the house, you can see how much pride Aiden takes in his creations.Aiden really enjoys building things as well. He's major into Legos and is particularly fond of the new Star Wars sets that they make these days. He's participated in the Science Fair for 2 yrs in a row now, and looks foward to going to his Legos Club that meets monthly. He is able to pick up anything to do with Legos in a quick manner and can figure out how to make a certain type of building if you ask him to. Tom made the crawl space in his room into a "Legos Closet" so he could have hours of creative play right next to him.Aiden recently started with a Chess class that is taught by a Russian Professional chess player. When I picked him up on that first day's class, the teacher motioned me aside and tapped his head and whispered to me "Eh, he's got quite a head for chess, doesn't he?" and "He's a very smart player already, I can see he has the heart for it as well, very smart". And he's right-- he really does a great job when it comes to chess. They had a quick game after the lesson where Aiden's friend won, and in the car he admitted to me that the other kid won, but that it was ok because he knew HE was the better player, and that he made a bad move that he knew he shouldn't have made. That's Aiden-- very willing to admit his shortcomings, but still having enough pride in his own abilities without being cocky! This past Spring, Aiden was on the Town's Recreational baseball league with Aleah. At first I wasn't sure how it would all play out, because he and Aleah have a LOT of competition against each other, but it turns out that each one of them has their own specialites in the sport. Aiden has an amazing ability to tell if the pitch is a ball or strike, and can easily spot it coming. It's uncanny just how GOOD of an eye he has! Not only does he have a great ability to see the pitches for what they are, he also has the patience to wait for the good ones. Once he gets that bat to hit the ball, it's a solid hit that goes far. With his keen eye for pitches, he's also quite good on the pitching mound as well! Tom will start "grooming" him for pitching next year because Aiden has the talent, but also the will power to concentrate on pitching well without clouding his judgement with emotions like many ball players do.One of the things Aiden enjoys is searching nature for different things here and there. He's not a typical boy that will do that whole "search and destroy" mission and find a creature and then smash it. Instead, he will find something in the yard, and want to preserve it and keep it living, although sometimes mom doesn't like that part all that much. He had a blast when we recently went to the Jersey shore and he found THREE LIVE Starfish, and a ton of jelly fish, and snails and the like. We tried to get them home still living, but unfortunately they had other plans, and we ended up taking dried ones home as a souvenir instead.Something I've noticed lately about this special young boy is that when he's out of the shadow of his older sisters, he is truly enjoyable and amazing to be with. He will take over the role of "big brother" very easily, and loves to help the little boys out with things. He has a lot of ideas on things to keep them busy, and he shows great patience with Asa and Aurick when they aren't able to keep up with the older ones. He's a terrific helper for me when the girls aren't around. I enjoy so many different aspects of his personality, and I can't wait to see what a wonderful, handsome gentleman he turns out to be.
